Pinouts
tinyGlow only uses three tinyCore pins, one per channel. These pins are in use whenever the HAT is mounted, so avoid assigning them to other things in your own sketches.
LED Channels (Data Out)
Section titled “LED Channels (Data Out)”| Channel | tinyCore Pin | Power Switch | Terminal |
|---|---|---|---|
| CH1 | 8 | S1 | V / SIG / G |
| CH2 | 9 | S2 | V / SIG / G |
| CH3 | 10 | S3 | V / SIG / G |
The silkscreen on the back of the board says the same thing in its own words: 8 = Vout1, 9 = Vout2, 10 = Vout3.
Each channel is independent. Different strips, different lengths, different animations, all at the same time. With FastLED you just call addLeds once per channel:
#include <FastLED.h>
#define CH1_PIN 8#define CH2_PIN 9#define CH3_PIN 10
#define CH1_LEDS 30#define CH2_LEDS 10#define CH3_LEDS 60
CRGB ch1[CH1_LEDS];CRGB ch2[CH2_LEDS];CRGB ch3[CH3_LEDS];
void setup() { FastLED.addLeds<WS2812B, CH1_PIN, GRB>(ch1, CH1_LEDS); FastLED.addLeds<WS2812B, CH2_PIN, GRB>(ch2, CH2_LEDS); FastLED.addLeds<WS2812B, CH3_PIN, GRB>(ch3, CH3_LEDS);}
void loop() { fill_solid(ch1, CH1_LEDS, CRGB::Red); fill_solid(ch2, CH2_LEDS, CRGB::Green); fill_solid(ch3, CH3_LEDS, CRGB::Blue); FastLED.show(); // pushes all three channels}FastLED.show() updates every channel you’ve registered, so one call does all three.
| Connection | Description |
|---|---|
| +VIN / GND terminal | External power input, 5V to 24V |
| V (on each channel) | Regulated power out to the strip, 4A max per channel |
| G (on each channel) | Ground, shared with the tinyCore |
| J8 | Optional jumper to the tinyCore’s 5V (USB) pad |
All the grounds are tied together, so your tinyCore and your strips always share a common ground. That’s required for the data signal to make any sense to the LEDs.
Reserved Pins Summary
Section titled “Reserved Pins Summary”| Pin | HAT Function | Notes |
|---|---|---|
8 | CH1 data | WS2812B data out |
9 | CH2 data | WS2812B data out |
10 | CH3 data | WS2812B data out |
tinyGlow doesn’t touch any other pin, and the tinyCore’s Qwiic connector and SD card slot are still reachable with the HAT on. So go ahead and plug in a sensor and make your lights react to it.
